What is a good handicap for a freshman in high school wanting to play on the Tour?

Right now I have a handicap of 13 and are starting back with my golf lessons again. I really want to be able to play on the PGA Tour but I am not sure what a good handicap should be for a golfer my age. I don’t know what a good handicap would be for a freshman that would be on the right track and looking pretty good as far as a future on the Tour
A 3-5 handicap would be an ideal start. Make sure it is a legitimate handicap too otherwise it WILL catch up to you down the road.
I know a few guy that were 1 to 2 handicap’s as freshmen ( i was probably an 8), one was my age grad 93, one was a year younger. I graduated with a 1 handicap. We all got schollarships (the younger got the Arnold Palmer to Wake Forrest). None of us even came close. My brother in law had an active +3 (they add shots to what you shoot) handi while trying to play in the mini tours, he didnt have much of a chance. I also had a +3 8 or 9 years ago (age 27ish) I could not have played on tour(I was pretty solid, not just crazy rounds to get it low).
So, dont worry about what you are right now, focus on what will make you better. PRACTICE!
I can give some hindsight on things you should do, but that wasnt what you were looking for.
thing about golf, is that each person matures at different ages. but whats important are the fundamentals. are you solid. are you a good 1 putter. everyone can 2 putt. so college scholarship is about a 2 hcp. so you have plenty of time to get your score down. important to focus on your score and play. make sound decisions.
While it’s good to have goals, making it as a regular member of the PGA Tour has the longest odds of any sport. There’s only 125 full time members. Think about how many pro baseball, football, basketball players there are… wayyyy more.
Most of these guys on tour were elite golfers from junior level through college, winning everything they played in. A 17 year old shot a junior record round of a *57* last year. Crazy good… and that’s in tournament golf.
So take your lessons (get a GOOD instructor), work out, and you’ll get better. Odds are not nearly good enough for any kind of tour, but it will be a game that will last your lifetime.
Well there handicap in high school doesn’t really determine if someone will be good enough to play on tour.
You could have a 15 handicap and still have the ability to play on tour 4 or 5 years from now.
It’s all in your head.
I am a senior in high school and will be playing Division 1 golf next year. I currently carry a +3 handicap, at your age I was probably a 4-5. I worked my tail off to get to the point I am at now, and will have to work twice as hard if I want to have a chance to go pro, so all I can tell you is that hard work will pay off. Most importantly enjoy the game and try to hit your best shot everytime. If you try your best you cant do any better. Keep the dream alive!!
