Here I am transferring into and out of my 2007 Chevrolet 1500 Crew Cab 4×4 Pick-up Truck. I have a rigid frame chair with a folding back. I just put the wheels and the chair between the bucket seats into the back seat, or with the seats folded up onto the floor in the back. Very simple if you have the upper body strength to do it. The only modification I have on my truck is hand controls.
I can’t walk or do anything but ride around in a wheelchair. I can, however, lift my legs eventhough I’m a paraplegic, and that’s all.
sorry.. maybe my jealousy talkin
I couldnt imagine makin that transfer… I am a c-8 quad, with a bum left arm brachial plexus injury.
Im a paraplegic.i was born with a birth defect.the only way i can lift my legs is with my hand. i drive, and have always wanted a truck but never thought i could do it because they sat so high. this is proof i can
im in a wheelchair 2 lol and i want a truck but i aint got the dang money 2 get me one lol keep maikin vids dude
what if the wheelchair slipped how would you get it? if it would be on the floor?
Nice vid though!!
I’ve had my wheelchair run away from me in a parking lot… i had to drive the truck to catch it… almost ran into traffic… awesome, but I was pissed.
I had to drive up next to it, then open the door in front of the rolling wheelchair… talk about a sight.
u a aint paralize.,dats aint funny so dont play like cause u dont watnt to b in a wheelchair,.trust me i kno
man… where do you get off saying i’m not paralyzed? i broke my back and dislocated my lower spine 20 years ago, man. I’ve been in a wheelchair ever since. I can’t walk, nor can i feel below the injury. dude, i wish i wasn’t, but i’m paralyzed.
well y u moved ur legs when u got up in the truck
yeah… i have what’s called incomplete paraplegia… i can lift my legs at the hip, but it’s very weak.
i wish i can move my leggs even a lil,.,i cant move at all i a t5
I’m sorry to hear that, bro… hang in there and do the best with what you do have.
Thank you for this video; I’m newly in a wheelchair and found the example very helpful.
I am sorry for the totally ignorant comments about whether or not you are a para. People are dumb.
I use mine for balance and other stuff, and so I can bear weight on my legs for short periods. You should hear the ignorant crap people throw my way.
Thanks again for posting this really helpful video!
yeah dude look he even has a hand control you dumbass..im a para 2 complete that uses one and hes incomplete and still needs it,,,hehe madwheels dont sweat it bro,,,,whats up man
Hi Madwheelin,
I also want to thank you for this video. I am a therapist and in clinic I show my clients/patients a rigid frame chair and how you transfer in and out so functionally.
It is very helpful to have your video to share when it’s difficult to explain manual mobility bases rigid vs. folding.
Thanks, DD
Glad to be of help to you and your patients.
kool, you’ve got that down… very fast
Good job bro, you a quik!
You made it look very easy. I’m t4 complete about 5’6” tall I doubt I can do that. Actually I have tried to my friend’s truck and it was a huge struggle and never quite made it . Thank you for the video thought.
My friend had a huge 4×4 that I could barely reach. The way I got in was by putting one hand on the seat, and the other hand on the door handle then pulled myself up that way. See if that works better for you next time. Take care.
@haddayr, No problem… it’s not eaxy when you’re new to all this. Glad I could help. Hang in there, and the frustration eventually subsides, and you get on with your life. Take care.
@BacyBass
Thanks, I’ve been doing it so long… I’m quick into the driver’s seat, but it’s awkward when getting into the passenger seat… everything is reversed… lol.
@grandprismatic
Thanks bud. Take care.
i’m lookin at gettin an SUV, this really helps me out, I tried it yesterday and i got in ok, but need more practice. i have a lower vehicle now and i just pop wheels off and leave chair on ground, so i need to retrain myself.
