Is 49 yoa with a solid 14 handicap and ambition to make the Sr tour within the next two yrs unrealistic?

I’ve been playing golf seriously for the last 4 yrs and have the time and the finance to hire a coach which I have in the past and the desire to practice whatever time is needed.

Nothing is unrealistic, and i think once you get your coach, you will improve tremendously. Also, caddies always help as well.

If you’re a 14 handicap, you’ll need to chop about 18-19 strokes a round off your scores to have a chance. Those guys can flat play out there. Go to the back tees on your course. If you can shot lots of rounds in the mid 60′s, you might have a chance.

Well, not to be Debbie Downer, but my golf coach always says “You know who’s currently training to be on the Senior Tour? The 49-year old guys on the PGA Tour.”

But hey, nothing’s out of the realm of possibility!

Not realistic. You’re a 14 handicap on your own course. Take your game to different PGA style course every week, play from the weed tees and try to break 90. I realize you have two years to practice and prepare but there is more to professional golf than plugging it in on Friday morning. I would suggest you play some regional tournaments to test your game and mental capability. It may be a perfect fit. That would be great. I wish you luck.

    It’s unrealistic.

Guys on the Senior Tour (or Champions Tour, if you will) are mostly former PGA Tour pros, who have handicaps in the +5 to +8 range.

You could probably get your handicap down to mid single digits (in the 4 to 6 range…maybe pushing 2-3) but that’s it.

    Going from a 14 to a 4 or a 5…doable. Going from a 4 to a +4…near on impossible.

Just go and watch a Seniors tour event. Watch what the worst finishers do . Can you emulate their results on your best day ? If you have the athletic ability, great hand and eye coordination, take the lessons and see how you compare. You will never be satisfied until you try.
