I live In a Disabled Elderly Apartment Complex?

Posted: June 3rd, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: Travel For Disabled | Tags: , , , , | 3 Comments »

Ok I live in an apartment complex for the disabled and elderly ..Over Christmas vacation there was a few snow storms here , when I returned I found that the snow and ice was not removed from my doorway ,and I could not get into my apartment ..
I actually had to shovel ice and snow and hurt my back in the process ..Does anyone know if disabled living complexes are supposed to keep all areas clean of snow and ice at all times ..
Thank you for the great answers , I need to mention , there is no maintainance staff here , they fired them ..And this building is run by , Rural Development of North Iowa ..

generally-ANY apartment complex or rental unit is supposed to clear snow from doorways/walkways–unless in your lease it states you are responsibile for snow removal (generally in exchange for a lower rent)..

they are also supposed to clear the handicap parking spaces within a certain time frame-2 days in my state

You can call an 800 number to report the maintenance staff. Several of us here in my Senior Apartment Complex are doing that today, we have 160 Apts. and they wont do the repairs or salt the ice and many repairs that are needed. We had 3 people fall on the ice last year. One man broke his hip and femur bone in this thigh. They told us we just needed to stay home. Well they have a big surprise coming to them! We have had it! Please call you local Senior Center for the 800 number where you live. Good luck.
