Consider visiting the Oregon coast. It has a spectacular shore line running almost the entire western border of the state.

The ocean and shoreline are a virtual playground of activities–collecting sea shells and beachcombing in general, building sand castles, walking (carefully) in the surf, watching and marveling in the tides, playing frisbee, interacting with the locals’ dogs, and more. While a wheelchair would be a bit of challenge on the sand, Oregon is a very forward-thinking state with a great deal of handicap access. There should be any number of locations providing an excellent view of the ocean–while safely on firmer ground.

There are so many places to enjoy the coast, from Seaside and Cannon Beach in the north to Lincoln City and Newport farther south, and dozens of tiny spots in between. You’ll find the cities small and friendly, with generally a wide range of dining choices from fancy to no-frills. If you like fresh seafood, there’s practically no better place to get fresh clams, Dungeness crab, salmon and halibut.

Lodging prices will be higher because of the locale, but you should be able to find plenty of budget chains with more reasonable prices. You’ll find most places with a number of interesting shops full of original art and crafts–it’s not all just souvenirs.

I hope I haven’t laid it on too thick, but I grew up on the coast and think it is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. I hope you’ll go and agree with me.

    Thats a good idea.

Whereever you go make sure there is a park, playground, or beach so they can run around and play.
