I am 20 years old i have been playing on and off again since i was 12 or 13, i played 3 of my 4 years in high School. I am a 5 handicap. I love golf. If i set my priorities all towards golf could i make the PGA Tour? If so what do i do? And how do you get in ameteur tournaments?

not that hard just look them up and follow entrance rules

You are at least 8 shots away from having the game to make it on tour. I suggest playing the most difficult course around, and posting tournament only scores. If your tournament average is under par..keep going….maybe someday.

SInce you are “carrying” a handicap, talk to the Head Golf Professional at the course you belong to and he/she will assist in finding you competitive tournaments for your ability.

If you have to ask, then no, you aren’t fit to rank with the world’s best in any endeavor.

You have a shot…Just don’t get married or anything….Larry Nelson didn’t take up the game until he was 21, and won the PGA Championship..Don’t listen to people who say you can’t make it….Believe in yourself and your talent…There are lots of pros who started late…Playing in touraments is the best way to get a clear perspective on where your game is at..If you compete and it doesn’t go well right away, keep on plugging and don’t give up…Formal competition is the only way to get better….

    PGA or PGA Tour?

With a 5 handicap you have the makings of a PGA club pro. It’s lots of work. My son just graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in PGM – Professional Golf Management. He is now a PGA card carrying pro. He is qualified to give lessons, play in tournaments for money, and work in the golf industry.

For you to be on the “TOUR” you should be able to beat almost anyone you play against. This is fairly easy to do at the local level. When you move to the state level it becomes much harder. I played in a tournament a couple of weeks ago with my 1.4 handicap. I was in the third flight. The first two flights had handicaps better than mine.

Good luck on your game. Check with your state golf association if you want to move to the next level of tournament play. Ask your club pro how to contact them.

I think if you lowered your handicap by 10 strokes, to a “plus 5″ instead of a “minus 5″ , then yes, you could be competitive on the PGA tour. it would take 3-5 years of playing and practicing every single day. As for Amateur tournaments, all you do is sign up, assuming you have the correct handicap and a valid check.
