COPD or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease does not mean that you cannot travel and enjoy life. Thanks to modern medical science, people that have lung disease can enjoy good quality of life, and have time to visit loved ones or pursue other activities. However, when traveling with COPD, there are some things to remember.
Short Trips With COPD
Always expect the unexpected, even on short trips. You never know when you might have car trouble by mechanical breakdown or traffic accidents. If you need oxygen, take this into consideration.
When you go on a trip, take along an entire day of your medications. This includes inhalers, as well as pills. It is always a good idea to have a backup oxygen supply wherever you go. You also should have water, so you can take your medications.
Long Trips With COPD
Before you take an extended trip, talk to your doctor about any concerns that you have. Make sure that your doctor believes that you will have no problems. While at the doctor’s office, ask about an extra supply of your medications.
If you need oxygen, be sure that it will be available, where you are staying. You will need to call the supplier to find out. You may be able to have some oxygen delivered to your destination, before you get there.
If you plan to fly, contact the airline about requirements for customers that need oxygen. Make sure that you can travel without problems, on any particular airlines, as requirements can vary a great deal. You will probably not be able to bring your own oxygen, so you will need to makes arrangements ahead of time. This means that someone will have to take care of your oxygen, as you will have to leave it behind, before boarding. If you need oxygen on the plane, you will have to pay for it, and it may not be reimbursed by your insurance company.
If you are traveling by car, take frequent rest breaks, so you can stretch your legs. Many people that have lung problems may have leg swelling, if they sit too long. Also, make sure that your oxygen is well secured, and a seat belt may be the best method.
Summary
Traveling with COPD is not impossible, but it is important to take precautions. Be sure to check with your doctor, and bring extra oxygen and medication. Understand the rules for flying with oxygen. Whenever you travel, be prepared for unexpected things to happen. This will make your trip safer and more enjoyable.

The Rules For Traveling With Disability
Posted: Nov 03, 2009 |
When planning to take a trip, by way of airplane, there are a number of different factors that you should consider. One of those factors includes whether or not you have a disability. Even if you do not have a disability, you also need to be prepared if you are traveling with someone else who has one. This preparation does not just include packing your bags for your trip, but it is also includes familiarizing yourself with air travel rules. Although most of the rules are the same, you will find that some rules differ for those who have a medical condition or a disability.
The first step in preparing for a trip with someone who is disabled, whether that person be yourself or another traveler, is to alert the airline. When making your reservation, you may want to inform the airline staff of any disability or medical condition that you may have. Although this is not necessary, it may be a good idea, especially if you will be traveling with medical equipment. Extra accommodations will need to be made for those who are traveling, past airport security checkpoints, with wheelchairs or mobility scooters. Learning what you will need to do with these items, ahead of time, is a great way to make your travel plans run as smoothly as possible.
It is also a good idea to famialrize yourself with the airport screening process. All individuals will need to go through medical detectors. If you or someone who you know is traveling with medical equipment that will set off the alarms, it is likely that they will be pulled aside for additional screening. This screening should only take a few minutes, but it will be done by a trained professional who will show compassion when dealing with those with a disability.
Unlike most other air travelers, who at this time are required to remove their shoes, those with a disability can leave their shoes on if they choose to do so. However, it is important to note that you may be subject to additional screening. To prevent this additional screening from occurring, you are advised to remove your shoes, if at all possible. In the event that you are unable to, it will not be a big ordeal. In fact, the additional screening often requires a quick swipe of a metal detector wand.
In addition to those with a disability, most airports have made special arrangements and exceptions for those who have a medical condition, especially one that requires medication at a specific time. You are allowed to keep your medication with you, in your carryon luggage, but you are advised to keep the dosages in small amounts. Due to the current ban on liquids, you are advised to have the proper medical identification. This means that you should keep your medication in the original package, especially if your name is on it. To be allowed through to the next checkpoint, your name will have to match the name of the prescription bottle. If it does not, there is a chance that you will have your medication confiscated.
By keeping the above mentioned points in mind you or your traveling partners, who may have a medical condition or a disability, should easily be able to make it to your intended destination. In the event that you are unsure about a particular screening procedure or if you have any other questions, you are advised to contact the airline in which you will be flying on or the airport that you will be leaving from, before your arrive there. Planning ahead is the best way to make your next flight a memorable and hassle-free experience.

The rooftop wasn’t high enough for the shouting so, how about 35,000 feet?
In the last month, Vision Airways began providing service between the Northwest Florida Regional Airport (VPS), Niagara Falls, NY and Miami. Right this moment they’ve announced direct service between VPS and a total of 19 cites; providing quick access to Florida’s Emerald Coast for lots of the nation’s most populous markets. Not since 1999 when JetBlue announced service has there been an airline announcement as massive as this.
Launched in 1994 and headquartered in Suwanee, GA, Vision Airways operates a small fleet of large jets with direct routes serving destinations in the Southeast United States, Texas, and Niagara Falls, NY. Now, VPS is Vision’s most active hub with direct routes to:
· Asheville, NC
· Atlanta, GA
· Baton Rouge, LA
· Birmingham, AL
· Chattanooga, TN
· Columbia, SC
· Ft. Myers/Punta Gorda, FL
· Greenville/Spartanburg, NC
· Huntsville, AL
· Knoxville, TN
· Little Rock, AR
· Louisville, KY
· Macon, GA
· Miami, FL
· Niagara Falls, NY
· Orlando/Sanford, FL
· Savannah, GA
· Shreveport, LA
· St. Petersburg/Tampa, FL
So, in case you’re headed to Walt Disney World to see Mickey Mouse, Huntsville to go to the Space and Rocket Center, Niagara Falls to see, effectively, the falls, or in case you’re headed to Pensacola, Ft. Walton Beach, Destin, Panama City or anywhere else in the Florida Panhandle, Vision Airways and VPS Airport are your connection.
In an article posted by USA Right this moment, Vision Airlines‘ COO David Meers is quoted as saying “We’ll be flying from cities which were neglected by giant carriers with giant aircraft for a variety of years¦ It opens up the power for people from all these communities to not solely go as they normally would (but) to go extra continuously,” He goes on to say that “[in the [next|subsequent] three years] It’s sensible to expect we’d add cities out west¦ and we’ll look at the Caribbean and Mexico.”
Whatever the future holds, the present is a gift that Florida’s Emerald Coast is grateful to receive.

Traveling alone is a very common time when women are attacked. There are many ways to protect yourself if you find that you are often alone. You should carry products like pepper spray and stun guns with you so you can be prepared if anyone should ever approach you or make you feel threatened.
Traveling alone is the most vulnerable time for a woman because that is when attackers like to strike. You may have nights that you are required to work late in the office. Your car may be a distance away down a dark street or parking garage. Women are attacked too often when they are by themselves. It isnât just about being aware of your surroundings but it is also about womenâs self defense products. You may be fully aware of your surroundings and that there is someone following you while you are walking, but if you donât have a way to defend yourself then it doesnât matter.
Pepper spray is an excellent choice to protect yourself with when you are traveling alone. It is a legal option to carry with you and one of the most effective ways of fighting off an attacker. It will temporarily blind the attacker but the damage the pepper spray does to the body is not permanent. You donât have to worry that you have permanently hurt them. All you have to do is use this womenâs self defense product on the attacker and run. It will give you up to 20 minutes of time to get away.
Stun guns are another device that are perfect for womenâs self defense. A stun gun works by disabling an attacker by stopping their physical capabilities of controlling their arms and legs. A stun gun has the capability to put an attacker down on the ground. One thing to keep in mind is that they will disable an attacker for only a few minutes. You do have to press the device against the attacker for it to be effective. You will have only a few minutes to get away. Also, stun guns may not work on an attacker that is under the influence of drugs or has a very large body type.
There are many devices you can carry on you for womenâs self defense. If you find that you travel alone often on business trips or you work late at night, then you should never be caught alone without pepper spray or a stun gun on you.
A device like this could save your life because it will give you the opportunity to get away from an attacker.
Jim Wilkinson is the Vice President of www.YourGreatestProtection.com. He has a background in Law Enforcement and Safety. He knows what is effective to keep you, your family and your home safe. His firm offers a variety of reasonably priced personal protection products such as tasers, stun guns, pepper spray, and hidden cameras.

Although Allan was the first to design and build a mobility scooters, and his company still does, there are numerous other companies who manufacture mobility scooters in various designs and also manufacture other mobility aids. One such company is Pride Mobility, which manufactures the Go Go travel scooter in various designs. A mobility scooter or Travel scooter is specially designed and developed for people with disabilities, or those who suffer from the effects of old age and cannot drive a car, bike, or a normal scooter, but still need to travel and move around. These small sit down battery powered motor scooters provide an important advantage for people with mobility problems all over the world.
The Go Go Travel scooter is very useful for people without the stamina or arm and shoulder flexibility required to use a wheelchair. Since these scooters have seats that can be swiveled, it is easier to manage than moving the foot supports on most of the conventional wheelchairs. A mobility or Travel scooter can be very useful for people with disability conditions like coronary heart disease, weak lungs, arthritis, or obesity, who can still walk a few steps, or are able to stand, or sit upright without support and control the steering of the scooter.
Although Wheelchairs also provide mobility, one of the big reasons for the demand for these Travel Scooters is that they do not look like Wheelchairs at all. The Go Go travel scooter is in fact a fusion of a swivel chair and a scooter, giving it a modern and contemporary look. This scooter is easy to take apart and can be disassembled into five pieces, either for storage, or taking it along on a vacation. The new design even allows for one-handed disassembly making it easier for people with handicaps to manage the scooter. A big advantage of these battery-powered scooters is that they do not weigh as much as the normal scooters and you do not have to strain yourself to push it around as the total weight of these scooters is 100-150 pounds. But they can carry a load of 250-350 pounds. Since these scooters have a top speed of 4-5 miles per hour, they are safe to use with little chance of accidents happening due to speeding.
Some Travel Scooters have on-board battery chargers and some have to be charged with a separate battery charger unit from a standard electric power outlet. The Go Go travel scooter is fitted with FAA approved batteries and has a convenient drop-in battery box. With swivel chair seating, adjustable tillers for steering, solid flat free tires, these scooters provide the required mobility and ease of use to people who would otherwise have to be dependant on near and dear ones for almost everything. For an elderly person, or people with disabilities and handicaps, the mobility that these scooters provide, brings some cheer and happiness to their lives.
