I want to go to Maine on vacation but my parents need convincing. They like to go to the casinos, eat at good restraunts, visit tourist spots, learn about the area. They are concerned there won’t be any thing to do there.
My mom uses a cane and my brother uses a walker because they are disabled. So places have to be handicapped accessable. With parking near by the places so they don’t have to walk far.

I’m a 20 yr old quadriplegic & I have a 3 yr-old daughter. About a week ago, our handicap accessible van quit working. Without that van I’m not able to go anywhere. I can’t even go to church. That is the worst part of not having any kind of transportation. I live with my 62 yr old mom & she has to take care me & my daughter. It is alot for her to have to do. As for repairing the van they said that it would cost more to repair it then it would to just buy another van. My mom my daughter & me live on just under $1200 a month. After we buy my mom’s medicine & my medicine, & also pay for daycare a few days a week & pay bills the money is gone. It is almost necessary for me to have this van. I don’t know how we are going to get the money. If you know of an organization that helped people with stuff like this please let me know. Any donations are greatly appreciated

I am a 61 year old service connected Vietnam Veteran and my wife has been unable to walk since 2000 because the VA did not treat her broken leg properly. She has a motorized wheelchair, but we have been unable to get a handicap van so that we can transport her place she would like to go so she is a prisoner in her on home. The VA refuses to buy her a handicap van and there are no organizations that help people to buy one who are in great need of one. We tried having my wife in our motorized wheelchair going down the side of the road with me behind her in my car with my flashers on, but we got stopped by the police and told that it was illegal for us to do that. I ask them if it was illegal for a person with one or two prosthetic legs to walk down the roads and they said no. I responded that the motorized wheelchair was my wife’s legs so why if it was not illegal for a person with prosthetic legs to walked down the road was it illegal for her to and the answer he gave was,”Because it just is”. So my wife is unable to get a handicap van so she can not go down the road without one unless she was to have her bad leg amputated and got a prosthetic leg and was able to learn to, walk with it then she could. Since we can not afford to she is punished because the VA messed up her leg.

I have a lil brother (14yrs old) and he’s been paralyzed from his waist down since he was a few
months old. He can do everything as a normal kid could do, he just CAN’T walk, he’s in a wheelchair. But anywho,
my mom has been by his side going to all his doctor appointments, has not worked ever,
catherizes him, etc. She has done everything for him. Our father left us when I was 6yrs old (I am
21yrs old) and who stuck by our side, MY MOM! Raising 4 kids on her own, 1 being disabled. So yea
my mom has had it bad, but no matter what, she never left us. She could have easily left us, knowing
my brothers situation, but nope, she stuck there. Okay back on story, my lil brother is out of control.
Cursing at my mom, threatening her (saying, “you better watch ur back u f***in b***h”), hitting her,
putting her down, just all kinds of cruel things. My mom can’t and will not do anything because of his
position. I mean, how is it gonna look when and if we call the cops on my lil brother or what not, and
they see my mom has been hitting him, putting him in his place to not disrespect her? Well of course
the cops are gonna think, “okay well this lil boy is disabled and she abuses him”. That will make my mom
look bad, therefore she doesnt do nothing. She tries to tell him to open his eyes and realize what he’s doing,
but he’s in that phase where he is rebellious. All in all, my mom can’t handle him anymore. Is there a such
thing as a boot camp for disabled kids? If not, what can we do as far as talking to someone. My mom can’t handle him anymore. School starts this August and he already wants to drop out. He says no matter how much my mom and or whoever will make him, he will not go..ughh this gets me so mad!! . This is putting so much stress on our family. PLEASE HELP! =(
