Majorca is universally known for being a holiday destination as it caters for sun seekers during both the summer and winter seasons. There is a change in dynamic as winter sets in; the crowded party areas become quiet and peaceful. There are three main destinations on the island which cater to party animals and culture vultures alike, with many great Majorca hotels, Alcudia, Magaluf and Palma.
Palma is a great way to spend a sunny winter day whilst in Majorca. There are a number of restaurants where holidaymakers can sample traditional, or a variety of cuisines. Walk around the beautiful squares or visit the museums and galleries before enjoying dinner in the capital city. The Cathedral is a must see for holidaymakers and the dramatic gothic architecture looks spectacular during the day or night.
Put down the ice scraper and pack your bags for a break in the sunnier climes of Majorca. Temperatures on the Island routinely hit 14c and a little above in January, meaning Majorca hotels do still have a good number of bookings from Holidaymakers fleeing the snow covered city streets of northern Europe. While most of Europe is sending out grit by the truck load the lucky inhabitants and holidaymakers visiting Majorca can enjoy the golden sandy beaches and the clear blue skies whilst relaxing in the quiet resorts. The evenings are very cool in the winter months so it is best to pack some warm clothing but the daytime will give visitors something toasty to look forward to.
There’s plenty to do outside the capital. Your first port of call should be either the old town or new town of Alcudia. Enjoy the mountainous scenery surrounding Alcudia. While the New Town is very touristy the old town has some wonderful traditional architecture and good flea markets to pick up some bargains. The Majorca hotels in the old Roman capital put visitors within easy reach of excursions on the Northern coast.

For many years, Majorca has been a top destination for sun seeking Brits on holiday. During the peak season months of June to September, the beaches, bars and many cheap hotels in Majorca are filled with enthusiastic holidaymakers. And it’s not just British travellers who enjoy the island’s charms. The King and Queen of Spain themselves were among the visitors this August when they stopped on the island for their regular holiday in the Balearics. There’s no doubt that visiting during the summer months can be an exhilarating experience – particularly if you head to Magaluf to soak up the party atmosphere – but it can sometimes seem a bit too hectic. So, for those who want to explore the island’s diverse offerings away from the crowds a winter visit comes highly recommended.
Majorca’s ongoing success can be partly attributed to its ‘something for everyone’ appeal. From its beaches and holiday activities to culture and cuisine, the island welcomes all types of traveller. Families, couples, groups of friends, those on a budget, those with money, or those just looking for a change of scene can all find something in Majorca.
In one sense the island offers a tried and tested formula. You know what you’re getting when you go there. For those who aren’t keen to take too much of a gamble with their cash this is particularly good news and the many cheap hotels in Majorca that are available help to ease the burden even further. In another way, though, Majorca has so much to offer that you could go back time and again and have a whole new experience each time.
Year round temperatures are a real advantage. Average temperatures reach highs of 29°C in August and then remain over 20°C into October meaning autumn visitors can experience the island’s offerings in comfort as well as relative peace and quiet.
There is plenty to enjoy, from the tourist attractions of the capital, Palma de Majorca, to the many and varied stunning beaches.
Visiting during winter, when the peak season crowds are dying down, is certainly a great way to get to know the real Majorca. You’ll also be able to enjoy out of season prices on Majorca hotels so that you get the most out of your money while you’re away.
