Choosing A Hotel : The Basics Explained

Posted: March 17th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

Choosing a good hotel is always important, whether you be on vacation or traveling for business. No-one wants to end up in a hotel that is overbooked, noisy, lacking in security, etc. Staying in a bad hotel can easily taint your whole trip. There are things that you can do to avoid the bad / poor value hotels though, such as considering each of the following before making a booking…

Location : Opting for a hotel in the center of the town is generally advisable, so as to cut down time wasted on travel. Town center hotels can be a bit much if you are there for longer than a week though. You can certainly save money by staying in hotels that are a little out of the way, and some will even offer a free shuttle bus to take you to and from the town center.

Cleanliness : Cleanliness and sanitation are one of the most important aspect to consider when choosing a hotel. The cheaper hotels are often the ones which are the least clean. It is hard to tell how clean a hotel is by just looking at pictures of it, so you will need to try and find some reviews of it. As a rule of thumb, you can always expect the larger hotel chains to be the cleanest.

Booking Online : Many hotel-booking websites provide you with all the information that you need to know to make your choice before arriving at your destination. If you just turn up without pre-booking then they know that you are desperate for a room and that they can charge their full rate. You can also specify that you want a particular room, such as a front facing one, or one near / far from the lobby.

Cost : Most people must stick to a limited budget, so it is always better to work out the total hotel cost before you make reservations. You should first decide what price range you can afford, and then pick one within than range that meets your individual or family needs.

Coupons : Free coupon books are available at travel agencies, airports, railway stations, etc. Discount coupons are also available from some travel websites – just download them and print them off. Savings of 10-50% are not uncommon. They may come with some restrictions, but it is definitely worth looking into before making a booking.

Reviews / Testimonials : Online hotel reviews and ratings are a great indicator of what you can expect from a hotel. What you read on the hotel’s own website is of limited use, because they are not going to say anything bad themselves. Just type the name of the hotel plus ‘review’ into a search engine and you will find out all that you need to know.

Sail to a secret pirate village in the heart of the Isla Mujeres with your gang of salty sea-dogs on the good ship, Caribbean Carnival. For Dutch courage there’s an open bar on board serving pina coladas, rum punch, margaritas and a host of local beverages and soft drinks. There’s a live pirate show when you arrive into the island and you’ll then have the chance to join in on a host of unique games and activities. For an authentic taste of the Caribbean there’s even a limbo competition. When the night’s over it’s time for your feet to touch dry land and for you to return to one of the cheap hotels in the city for a good night’s sleep.

Reminders of Cancun’s Mexican heritage are everywhere from the nearby ruins of Chichen Itza to the street stalls serving up tacos, but many forget that Cancun is also part of the Caribbean! The popular resort hotels and white-sand beaches might be a reminder as to where you are, but the Caribbean Carnaval is a celebration and claims to be 100% Caribbean right down to the lime daiquiris. The food on the buffet might not follow this completely follow this rule – the ship offers a selection of pasta dishes and meats but it’s certainly very tasty. All-you-can-drink cocktails kick off the evening as your ship sails onto Isla Mujeres, or Woman Island. End your evening dancing under the stars to a host of traditional Caribbean acts which include reggae, rumba and salsa musicians.

Cancun is a clubbers paradise and holidaymakers will find the bars and nightclubs offer a lot more than their usual fare, from acrobatics to light-shows; some even offer an all-you-can-drink cover charge to tempt in the revellers. However, why not treat yourself to a change of scenery one evening and enjoy a different kind of evening entertainment? Whether you choose to return back to one of the Mexico hotels or hit the night-clubs afterwards is entirely up to you:

Omni Berkshire Place Luxury Hotel is a fine hotel right in the middle of Manhattan. It has many cool features like multilingual, laundry service, in room movies, a security guard, high-speed internet, a fitness room, mini bar, and it’s even pet friendly!

But it’s a great place to make reservations not just because of how great the hotel itself is but because of its location which puts you within a short walk to so many great things to see and do.

I am a big lover of just strolling the streets of NYC. Even without a particular destination in mind it can be a cool experience because there’s just so much happening. But it’s nice that this hotel is so close to so many interesting things.

If you love to shop then you are going to be pleased because the Omni Berkshire Place hotel is located less than a block from the famous shopping of 5th Avenue. There is many fabulous stores you can check out on 5th Avenue like Saks Fifth Avenue, The Disney Store, Cartier, Luois Vuitton, Kenneth Cole, and Ferragamo Women.

The huge 22 acre Rockefeller Center is just a short walk from the hotel. This is the headquarters for NBC among many other things. Television shows like SNL and Last Call with Carson Daly are filmed here. It also includes Radio City Music Hall where you can see some fabulous shows. Check the venue website to see who will be there during your visit. I was lucky enough to see Radiohead perform there in 1998.

The famous ice skating rink that you have seen on TV and in NYC based movies is also located in Rockefeller Center. It is cool to see something in person after having seen it so many times on the screen.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is another cool thing to see because it’s remarkable looking! The 19th century architecture is truly stunning!

You may want to think about purchasing a New York Pass if you are going to be in NYC and you want to see a lot of the city. It can save you a lot of time and money on your visit. Read this New York Pass Review to learn about it.
