Watching The Waves Go By

If you are looking to take a relaxing vacation with your family, loved one or simply by yourself for some peace and quiet, a cruise is definitely one of your top options. However it is easy to find a cruise that is mainly adult, or some that are more focused on providing entertainment for kids, from toddlers to teenagers.

Nicola Jackson is a Canadian student-entrepreneur with a travel bug that’s taken her (so far) to Britain, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Czech Republic and the Dominican Republic. Her web site http://www.cruise-your-way.com is a mosaic of information on cruise vacations, inspired by her research for her own vacation planning.

Obviously you will want to go somewhere where the chance of hurricanes is limited in the fall; however, keep in mind cruise ships will alter their destinations accordingly.

When choosing where to cruise to, a good starting point is figuring out what sort of activities you want to do, because each destination comes with a distinct ambience.

Make sure you know the ship’s plans because sometimes if you are only doing a one-way trip, the sightseeing may only be on one side of the ship, so you will see nothing from your room. If small spaces bother you, a cabin with a balcony may be good for you–although it’s pricier, you get the luxury of stepping outside and enjoying the view.

The open seating may be the best option for families–we all know how unpredictable life can be with kids!

Size of ship: Cruise options range from huge mega-liners with live theatre, multiple swimming pools, interior shopping malls and even ice rinks and climbing walls, to intimate smaller ships for only a few couples.

Ship amenities: As mentioned above, cruise ships come with a wide array of amenity options. On the larger cruise ships you will find multiple restaurants, gym and squash facilities, interior atriums of many stories with lots of onboard shopping, libraries and lounges, disco and dance halls, live theatre shows, multiple swimming pools and waterslides, full spa services and much more.

It might cost you three thousand dollars but taking that cruise is all about fun and happiness:seo experts

Internet Cruises – Shopping Online

“If you build it, they will come.”

That advice, which prompted an Iowa farmer in the 1989 movie “Field of Dreams” to plow over his corn field and build a baseball diamond, has become the mantra of many high-tech startups promoting electronic commerce on the Internet. And the cruise travel industry has also embraced this “shop by computer” concept.

Indeed the Internet can be a wonderful source of information to help you plan an exciting holiday, obtaining ship and stateroom descriptions, itineraries, tips on sites to see, passport and visa requirements, shore excursion, shopping, weather and local interest information, but is it the right place to book your dream vacation?

Cruise lines are investing over US$15 billion to build at least 50 new ships in the first half of this decade in addition to the over 300 vessels already in service. Each of these ships offer different amenities with unique ambiance and often this kind of information can only be understood and communicated by face to face discussions with a cruise expert to avoid turning a terrific vacation into a mediocre experience.

There is a common misconception that because something is offered for sale on the Internet, it will be an exceptional or a major saving for the consumer. More often than not however it is the ease of completing a transaction that is the major benefit for certain types of travel.

Do not assume that pricing on the Internet will automatically be the lowest. Often local agencies will have agreements with the cruiselines that allow them to offer exceptional “not to be advertised” specials.

Sometimes there are “residents specials” which are applicable only to residents of a particular country, state or province. Most cruise lines offer price protection to the consumer should the fare for your category of stateroom be reduced. A good agent will watch for reductions and ensure you receive the adjustment. Using an electronic service may not provide the same protection or make available specific specials applicable to your requirements.

Arrangements unique to your vacation such as special dietary requirements, handling disabilities, and providing meet and greet services, may be overlooked booking on-line and there may be no way to get answers your very specific questions.

On the other hand booking your frequent flyer points travel directly with the airlines or even obtaining a air ticket can be a simple process with little risk if you are dealing directly with the airline’s booking engine. Above all make sure about who you are giving your credit card to.

Where are they located, and how long have they been in business? Can you get references? Are the web transactions secure? Is the currency my currency? How will my documents get to me and are there additional charges that have not been itemized? What happens if I do not receive the tickets?

Now for the good news! As a research tool, the Internet is second to none. Most cruiselines have sites that provide detailed information on their offerings. Carnival Cruise Lines at www.carnival.com offers comprehensive information on their ships, itineraries and even the shore excursions available for each sailing.

Similar sites are available from Princess Cruises at www.princess.com or Royal Caribbean International at www.rccl.com where you can print a custom information brochure in full color if you wish!

The official trade organization of the cruise industry is the Cruise Lines International Association (www.cruising.org). They work in partnership with nearly 21,000 affiliated travel agencies throughout North America to ensure the highest caliber of cruise sales expertise and service for cruise vacationers.

This is a fun place for exploring what cruising is all about and CLIA provides links to all major cruiselines, frequently asked questions, vacation planning information and even a cruise expert locator to find an Accredited Cruise Counsellor near you.

If you would like to create a printed mini-guide to your vacation destination, you may wish to visit www.fodors.com. The creators of the famous travel books allow you to create your own mini-guides to a destination covering transport, lodging, dining, currency, health, and more in a personalized format.

The Columbus World Travel Guide (www.wtgonline.com) is a resource often used by travel agents for complete information on almost any destination in the world. This site will give you history, maps, visa and passport requirements, how to get there, public holidays, political structure, useful addresses, accommodation, business profiles, climate, social profiles and much more.

There are also links to other very useful areas on the Internet such as Mapquest, Yahoo Weather, Traveller’s Health Services, World Tourism Offices, the Government Travel Advisory and Information services as well as links to ship bridge cameras offering live pictures from their vessels.

Having both a computer and travel background, I am excited by the potential of the Internet as a comprehensive research tool. My practical side reminds me that there is no such thing as a “free lunch”. It is not how much you save but what you get for what you pay!

Who Would Try Silversea Cruises?

Posted: September 7th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Destination Guides | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

Being working on cruise boats for several years as a photographer gave me the chance to meet many different people. Something that not many people seem to understand is that living in a boat is very different to living in a flat or a house and it has a big impact on people’s social behaviour. People seem to be more open and relaxed as admittedly they will accept the fact that the boat is where everything happens from developing a new friendship and flirting with someone to breaking up and divorcing!

Any of those massive luxurious boats that cross the oceans are in a sense like small towns. One thing to remember is that apart from the passengers there are hundreds of employees for whom the boat is the place where they work, live, socialise and sleep 24/7. It is strictly forbidden for those people to develop social relationships with the passengers but sometimes it is inevitable.

The most typical profile a passenger is that he is around 60 years old, retired and wealthy. They all come from a wide range of different professions but with a few exceptions most of them were very successful professionally. Apart from the expected diplomats, lawyers, architects, doctors and highly credited professionals it’s common to come across shop keepers, vendors and many small scale businessmen. That signifies that high education is not really one of the main factors, although a high income is.

Of course there is a small part of passengers who although they don’t make enough to be afford a luxury, they are happy saving hard in order to make their dream come true cruise. Some of them simply want to experience a different lifestyle which differs from their daily one greatly. Although I had that experience on Silversea Cruises where I used to work, other friends mine that used to work for Oceania Cruises and Cunard Cruises have witnessed similar incidents.

Talking about sports, golf is definitely the king with tenis and polo being popular too. Taking up a luxury cruise for many people could be a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience but it is definitely worth it..

Antarctica For Students

Posted: August 28th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Cruises | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

A trained individual would easily be able to spot how valuable the contents of the plastic vials and bags actually are. Time cannot be wasted when it comes to these samples from the Larsen Ice Shelf in Antarctica and the scientists will be busy. A lot of data can be obtained from mud alone, says a college senior. Antarctica was visited by people belonging to one college and a university that received funding from the National Science Foundation and this college senior was part of it. When it comes to research travel, these schools have been exposed to them already. You will gain a deeper understanding about kimberley travel by checking out that resource.

For the group, a research vessel was used and they departed from Punta Arenas Chile in early February. The unchartered territory of the Larsen Ice Shelf was their first destination located on the east of the Antarctic Peninsula. No one had ever been in those waters said another senior student. Sonar was used for measuring the depth of the ocean while the boat moved slowly. Every part of their exploits was videotaped by the students and researchers who also collected water and sediment samples from the deck. Analyzing these samples will require much work.

The composition and water content of mud samples will be studied and this will result in information leading to its relation with global warming. There are students who mentioned how such a trip is a rare event. It gives you a taste of what it’s really like said this student. For this student who is a native of Scotland, global warming will be her course for graduate school. There is no problem with her having to spend the rest of her life on a ship says one student who will be at one university’s school of Oceanography next year.

Considering the harsh weather conditions in the Southern Hemisphere, they actually managed well. It’s like Upstate New York really. When the sun rises at 430 am and sets at 930 pm the cold days are not as intense as this. Difficulty can be experienced with the brightness when you look out the window. Civilization was lacking, but science was happening 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A student had a choice of a midnight to noon or noon to midnight shift. Either sleeping on the bunk beds or catching movies in the group lounge was the activity for students on off days. You can get the best coral princess information by visiting this website.

Every student is still expected to abide by some rules. When something big happens, a senior should be told. There was a time when a senior student had to visit an emperor penguin after checking out a surface volcano. Such an encounter was enjoyable for this particular Dryden native. Everything must be experienced. Exploring Vega Island was the best day of her life in this place. What she said was that being able to go to where only 10 people have been to is unbelievable.

The students actually missed five weeks of classes. Their busy schedules on board, and the environmental hazards that came along with their floating classroom, made it difficult to get schoolwork done. Because their ship was constantly moving it made it harder. Two emails a day became their only connection back home. As a result of close quarters and having fewer distractions the students and faculty were actually brought together. It was said by one student that escape was impossible. Not only the desolate area but also the extreme environment will really make you close.

For the customs officials the explanatory documents for the unique cargo were prepared as they carried their samples back to the United States in coolers. Other than five rolls of film one student also carried 323 digital pictures. Another student, who went on the expedition last year as well, said she spent more time embracing her surroundings. She said that you need firsthand experience. Sometimes, you just have to appreciate what’s around you.

Unforgettable Cruises In The Nile

Posted: August 15th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Destination Guides | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

I’ve been lucky enough to travel in many different continents and countries throughout my life. I’ve had the chance to admire many of nature’s beauties that some times made me wonder whether they were real or not. From the high altitudes of the Peruvian mountains to the vast Amazon forest and from the glaciers of Patagonia to Morroco’s old clay towns there are so many memories and emotions to recall.

However, if I ever had the chance to pick up one particular moment out of all those moments I would choose the time as I spent in Egypt with a river trip in the Nile being the ultimate highlight. It’s not easy to explain the reasons for such a choice but I guess it has to do with the incredible energy that Nile transmits. I had never considered river cruises as I couldn’t see any point having a cruise in a river.

Until that day, I had never seen so much beauty anywhere else than into the sea, with the Mediterranean being my favourite one. Although I had spent some years of my life living in Budapest and Prague that were built in the Danube’s banks, I was never amazed by any river until that day.

During my travel in Egypt I met a very interesting American guy that was an expert in cruise deals and managed to make inhibitions go away and try one. According to his beliefs, for some of the greatest experiences in life there is only one chance which should not be missed. There are so many agencies selling Nile River Cruises at Aswan that buying one didn’t take us more than 10-15 minutes.

And what an experience it was, travelling in the mighty river Nile. Because its mouth is located into the Mediterranean sea the whole landscape seemed familiar. Just the thought that we were traversing the world’s longest river made me shiver and think of how many people’s lives were depending on that river which stretches all the way from Egypt to Ethiopia. So intense was the experience I had that it makes no wonder why ancient Egyptians worship had the Nile at its center.

Hop Aboard: Plenty Of Options On Cruises For Holidaymakers

Posted: July 12th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Cruises | Tags: | No Comments »

It can be exhausting, between making all the arrangements, getting to the airport then the hotel, then planning an itinerary that makes you feel as though you have included the sights but also allowed for some relaxation. Making travel arrangement super simple, taking a cruise is a great idea if you want lots of options with none of the stress, as there are plenty of cruises that depart from the UK as well.

Relaxation
You don’t have to do any of the on-board activities, if you just want to sit poolside sipping on daiquiris, while there are plenty to take part in and off-shore excursions on the agenda. It’s easy to unwind once your cruise ship has set off to sea. Most cruise ships offer plenty of swimming pools and Jacuzzis for you to take a leisurely dip in.

Entertainment
You may be slightly overwhelmed, with the many things that a cruise ship offers. You’ll find a range of other things to keep you occupied as well – from taking a plunge down a waterslide, getting lucky in the casino, practice your swing with a golf simulator, or balance yourself on eight wheels for a go around a roller-skating track.

Learn

There is an  array of special events to add to the cultural aspect to cruises. It may be a talk about the art and architecture of your next port of call or a tutorial showing you how to prepare a regional cuisine. You can also often find classes for things like ballroom dancing and salsa and if you want some time to discover things on your own, most cruise ships also have a library.

Indulge
Sometimes at duty free prices, you’ll find a whole mini-universe on-board to serve all your needs, with convenience shops as well as those stocking luxury goods. If you fancy a beverage, there are plenty of bars to relax in and many restaurants to eat in. From eat-as-you-please buffets to restaurants of Michelin-starred chefs, you will be spoilt for choice.

Keep active

To avoid guilt or put on post-cruise weight, you can to indulge and you’ll find a plethora of options for keeping fit. Most ships have gyms as well as running tracks and aerobic and other exercise classes. You could also swim a few laps in the pool or burn off those extra calories by dancing the night away.
