Does anyone know if the airlines and the rental cars accomodate this?

I am a handicaped man but can walk short distances with the aid of a cane. Recently, I traveled by Northwest, but I didn’t need my cane because they took me all over the airports by a wheelchair attendant.

Now, I am looking into a mobility scooter that I can buy and take to MLB baseball parks and through the airports.

the airlines will absolutely take that. free of charge!!!! I’m not sure about the rental car though, you’d have to call and ask them. they may ask you to check the item into your baggage, but they will not charge you for it. if they do that they will have someone come get you at the ticket counter and escort you to the gate in a wheel chair that the airport provides.

Airlines are equipped to handle travelers of all abilities, including those using power wheelchairs and scooters. Just make sure that you call the airline well in advance, to find out their policy on checking your wheelchair or scooter and to find out how early you need to arrive so you don’t miss your flight.

The regular car rental companies do not provide cars with wheelchair lifts or ramps, but there are companies that rent strictly wheelchair and scooter accessible vans. I work for Ability Van Rentals, and we rent vans by the day, week, or month, just like you would rent a regular car from Enterprise or Hertz. Feel free to check out our website for more info: http://www.abilityvanrentals.com.
