The violence between drug cartels along the US Mexico border continues to threaten both countries, with Mexico still under a US travel alert. Hello Im Charlotte Bellis and you’re watching Newsy.com. www.newsy.com Last week Newsy looked at how the US is being affected by the border violence. Now were taking a broader look at some of the dimensions of this story. Were following perspectives from the Los Angeles Times, FOX News, NBCs Meet the Press and the BBC. Reporting from Cancun, the Los Angeles Times focused on suspicions that an ex-police chief of the popular vacation destination is involved in three recent murders. A high-profile killing in the country’s signature beach resort is the last thing Mexico needs at a time when drug-related violence has scared away visitors from areas such as Baja California. The LA Times adds, The incident does not seem to have spooked spring break vacationers, who already are pouring into the palm-lined beach region. (The LA Times) FOX News looked at the border situation from the economic point of view of Texas. much of Texas strength of the economy really depends on Mexico. In fact just last year roughly $143 billion worth of goods came from Mexico into Texas. That accounts for 43 percent of the all of the good in the state of Texas. (FOX News) On NBCs Meet the Press, US defense secretary Robert Gates praised Mexican president Felipe Calderons battle against the drug cartels. He also said the US was prepared to send military resources to

I think Americans should stop buying drugs from the cartels so the cartels would have no reason to come here in the first place.

@luftwaffe91… You saying that Mexicans don’t have education is a little dramatic and untrue. Nevertheless i do see you point of view, most of the Mexican Army does work for the cartels but it’s the only thing they can do. their pay is very low and their risk is VERY high as you may already know, they are just trying to protect themselfs and their familys.

mexicans dont have education, their businessmen normally do things to their workers that would be illegal in many countries such as sending their administration workers to sell their products to the street, they dont give them a place to sell and theyre fired if they dont sell, the mexican army works for the drug cartels, and theres no order in that country

Mexico should be rich because is rigth next to the USA. Thats a fact, and Mexico is not collapsing. Mexico can be as rich as Canada, if Mexico solves corruption. Mexican army ranks higher than Canada army ranks.

The US is the most bizarre country in the world, has the best things but also the worst things. The US is bitching about the cartels, ( mexican, colombian), but are the number 1 consumers, and number one in prostitution, low moral standards, crazy people, prison inmates, murders, destroyed families, homeless, racism, stressed people, destruction of the planet due to excessive consumption, etc.etc.

They need to kill them all this has gotten to the point where you start ignoring the rules and do it another way. The second our troops get involved this fight is going to turn around. They can fuck with the poorly trained and funded Mexican army but not the United States Military.
