Bosnia Vacation Number 7 of 7

This is a trip that I took with my sister to Bosnia and Herzegovina in April, 2008. We rented a car in Sarajevo, and drove through several countries (including Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Macedonia, Kosovo, Bulgaria, and Serbia). We had connecting flights in Germany and Slovenia…and spent a bit of time in these countries as well. My original plans were to visit Argentina, but I couldn’t get there and back on my US Airways frequent flier miles. After many, MANY hours on the phone with the US Air Gold Desk, I finally asked, “Well, where on Earth CAN I go with my miles?” The answer: Bosnia and Herzegovina. So, we packed our bags and headed to Sarajevo! Is it crazy to go to Bosnia for vacation? Well, most of our friends and family thought so. I tell you what, though. I’d go back there in a heartbeat! It was inexpensive, the food was fantastic, and the people are very warm and generous. Hopefully, after watching the video, you’ll agree that the Balkan countries make for a great vacation destination! As always, PLEASE leave comments!     Hello,

    I’m looking to go to Bosnia this summer myself and hopefully see Serbia and (depending on who I am speaking to) the country Kosovo or the part of Serbia called Kosovo. Did you cross the border between them or did you go around?

    Also, if you drove from Belgrade to Sarajevo, I would imagine that you passed close by Srebrenica. Did you stop there at all? I’m curious because it (along with Sarajevo and Mostar) is one of the parts of Bosnia that I am most curious about.

    So I just finished watching the entire 9-part series… LOVED IT! Thanks for posting! Brought back lots of memories of my trip to the Balkans during the Summer of 2005… Including, eerily enough, my own run-in with death on a street within the old city of Dubrovnik — while my friends and I sat outside of a restaurant, eating pizza and enjoying an otherwise lovely day, a dirty old alleycat slowly crawled up under our table and slowly died or slipped into a coma or something. It was brilliant.

    “Lady”…hahhaha! Yep, that “lady” is the one who sleeps with oars on my boat when she comes to visit. “Lady”…that’s a good one! ;-)
